HR Executives from Japanese Companies Coming to Silicon Valley

We had a pleasure meeting 23 HR executives from Japanese corporations this month. In collaboration with PASONA NA, one of the largest staffing agencies in Japan, we welcomed the executives from large corporations in different industries such as healthcare, chemical, real estate, and IT. The purpose of this program was to 1) learn HR tech trends in Silicon Valley, 2) observe how Silicon Valley companies are managing their talents, and 3) find ways to utilize that knowledge and information in their companies HR practices.

Throughout the 3 days of the program, executives visited large tech companies in Silicon Valley such as AWS, LinkedIn and Google, met several HR tech startups and had networking opportunities with HR leaders and local talents within those companies and startups.

The Program and Beyond

On top of the visits and meetings which received very well by the executives, this program provided an opportunity for the participants to get to know other companies and share their challenges. One of the most helpful things you find when you have challenges in your company is to know how other companies are trying to solve these issues. It is great to understand Silicon Valley approach but we all know it is difficult to utilize that within Japanese companies as is. What the executives found very helpful in this program was that they could learn from each other by sharing their own experiences and challenges. That is a starting point of a community helping each other, which is one of the key ingredients of Silicon Valley that we always want our clients to see. The power of community and the spirit of helping each other.

Some of the executives who have participated in this program kept in touch with the Silicon Valley companies they met and connected them to their people in Japan. We are happy to know that this program was not just about the 3 days of learning but a starting point of their relationship with Silicon Valley.
